My friend Brenda Sue from B’sue Boutiques had the great idea to create this event that I’m part of with other great artists featuring our creations with “Sari Silk Ribbon” and to host it in our blogs. I love to work with different textures, colors and techniques, the challenge to incorporate a new element in my designs is always so amazing and it gives me the opportunity to reinvent myself and opens many possibilities. When I meet “ the Sari” I knew it was here to stay, we had our differences, but Sari gave up and adapted to my crazy Ideas, anyway, now we are good friends.
My affairs with Sari…
Pillpintu – Quechua for Butterfly
PILLPINTUCHA (folkloric quechua rhyme)
Kulur kulur pillpintucha,
dibuhasqa lapracha,
mana llamina,
mana k'irina,
huq llamiyllapi dibuhuchayki burrakun.
Ay kulur kulur pillpintucha,
chay laprachaykita llamirusqaymantan
mana libruchayuq kapuni
mana liyiyta atirapunichu.
Translation:
Colorful Butterfly with traced wings.
I barely touched you and I erased you,
Now how will I ever read you?
My book is now blank.
This cuff is as Folkloric as the rhyme, the colors remind me to the “cholitas” dresses (Andean women), and when they dance the colorful “polleras” Skirts twirl so much that it seems like they are flying, just like butterflies.
I used Brass elements that I hand painted, Sari ribbon that added that special touch to my design and a Real “Anteos Menippe” Butterfly. This little lady came from Rio Tambo, Satipo, Peru, so is as Peruvian as I am. This was definitive an adventure, for the butterfly and for me, but I finally found a way to preserve her without damaging the texture and the vibrant yellow color. Adorning the butterfly I added a bezel where I added a with a little flower to remind my little yellow friend that nature is where she belongs…
A Book is a Hope
I was told by my sweet grandfather that a free minute should be well spend by reading a book, because every time we open a book we learn, and by learning there is a hope that we will become something bigger. I miss you papi.
So I decided to grab my needle and cover two metal blanks (that I cut myself ) with Sari Ribbon, I twisted it , expanded it, made decorative stitches and add some seed beads with the word “Hope” on it. For the pages I used Vintage papers coated with resin. The neck treatment has lots of beads and more Sari ribbon.
Libelula’s grace
To me, the Dragonfly possesses the grace of a ballet dancer, almost touching, always proper, always solemn.
This necklace represents that for me, a little dragonfly barely touching the flower in the middle. I designed the center with cold tones and the neck has a beautiful blue – green Sari ribbon and on the other side beads that coordinate .
I hope you enjoyed my designs, Thank you all for visiting!
